LUX

Lux which means light in latin, is an immersive experience that uses visuals and sound as a therapeutic tool to help reduce anxiety and stress. Research has shown that a mix of lights and forms with sound helps people relax. Lux allows the user to customize your environment for it to be soothing for you, allowing you to destress and escape from your screens for a while. Lux is composed of a digital platform (app) and a physical product.

Problem

Anxiety disorders are the most common of mental disorders and will affect nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives.

Chronic stress has been shown to have a number of negative health impacts from insomnia to weight gain to an increased risk for heart disease

70% of all working adults aged 20 to 64 report at least some level of stress

Research Process
Secondary Research

To start off, I looked into existing research material. The list of resources where books, articles, websites, psychological studies, podcasts, etc.  Using the information I gathered from these sources, I created maps that reflected our understanding.

Research Insights

Colors can make us feel happy or sad, and they can make us feel hungry or relaxed. These reactions are rooted in psychological effects, biological conditioning and cultural imprinting.

Insufficient lighting has been found to contribute to depression and vitamin D deficiencies, while proper lighting is known to improve mood and energy levels.

Lighting technologies extend the options for changing the appearance of rooms and closed spaces, creating ambiences with an AFFECTIVE meaning

SWOT

SWOT analysis is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or organization identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to business competition or project planning.

Competitive Analysis

I explored different products in the market that had or worked with the same idea that Lux. Looked into meditation apps since it is a big part of the picture. I looked into environment lamps to help me decide to see what products where the most popular and how they worked.

User Journey Map

I mapped out the user experience of the persona for Lux. Located the pain points and explored where I could introduce my product to make the journey better.

VPD

I decided to do an analysis of the value of Luci within the market, how Lux could create gain points and resolve pain points. I mapped the products and services around Lux to see how to market my product.

Primary Research

To start off, I looked into existing research material. The list of resources where books, articles, websites, psychological studies, podcasts, etc.  Using the information I gathered from these sources, I created maps that reflected our understanding.

Research Insights

The way different colors can affect emotions depends largely on a color’s brightness, shade, tint or tone and whether it’s cool or warm toned

Poor lighting can contribute to your emotions, they tend to make you feel sadder

People are open to meditate in order to feel better or less stressed

Ambiance has a high impact on how we feel in different situations

Lighting makes you feel more relaxed

Color can change how we feel

User 1

My stress peaks after I am done with my day, it usually increases at night just before I go to sleep, its like i'm done with my day, and even if I am done with every task I get reminded of everything I need to catch up on or do tomorrow and my stress increases

User 2

Now I use a meditation app, but when I started it took a lot of time for me to get used too, I didn't like having it come from an app, I felt I was disconnecting myself from the idea of meditating by using my phone.

User 3

I wake up every morning with a sun lamp, and it helps me feel more relaxed, it definitely has an impact on how I perform within my day

Values

To sum up my research, I used short and digestible values that I would implement into my design. This is a way of synthesizing that I found to be accessible for me as the designer, as well as for my audience.

Features

After conducting secondary and primary research and doing the Business Model Canvas and the Value Proposition Canvas, these are the features that I found would be the most fundamental in Lux. However, overtime, I expect them to change.

Site Map

This diagram shows the functions and actions of the site page-by-page. It involves the user experience as well as different interactions apart from the customized immersive experience you can find with Lux App

Wireframes

After going through the sitemap and the app architecture I did wireframes to help me settle down on the visual design and test the prototype before going forward with my visual design

High Fidelity Prototype

Using the wireframes, I developed my high fidelity prototype. These screens when through many changes after going through the user testing and feedback sessions.I focused on the visual design based on the brand identity and based on the values of Lux

Bright Muted Colours

I chose bright, but muted colours to allude to the idea of relaxing without being really disturbed by loud bright colours

Sans Serif

A modern sans serif gives the user a relaxed sensation but also more personable
